What is Sculptra® Aesthetic?
Sculptra® is an alternative to dermal filler injection that works to restore lost volume to the aging face.
How does it work?
As you age, you slowly stop creating collagen, the substance that keeps your skin and face full, bright and glowing. Also, the fat stores under the skin that lift up the face gradually disappear, leading to volume loss and a face that appears to have fallen down and forward.
Sculptra® is a cosmetic injectable product that is used to fight the symptoms of the aging face and skin by stimulating the body to develop it’s own collagen, replacing the collagen that has been lost due to aging. It has an added advantage of stimulating collagen production in the skin as well, which helps the skin to naturally rejuvenate itself.
How is this different from dermal filler?
Dermal filler is a gel-like substance that is injected into the face to actually replace the lost volume with another product. These products last approximately 6-12 months and need to be repeated.
However, Sculptra® stimulates the body to create it’s own collagen, so as it dissolves the new collagen that is formed around it will last for 2 years or more.
What can I expect after treatment?
The results of Sculptra@ are not immediate. At the first treatment it may appear as though it worked right away however what you are seeing are 1). swelling and 2). the water that the product was dissolved in. This will diminish and you may look as you did before your treatment. However remember that your body is doing the job of making collagen and this will be evident over time.
You may have bruising, swelling and tenderness at the injection sites.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of injection appointments and the number of injections per appointment vary from person to person, depending on how much collagen has been lost. As Sculptra® stimulates your body to create collagen, you will see a gradual improvement in facial volume and collagen loss, resulting in firmer, younger looking skin. On average, three injection appointments are needed over a period of a few months. After that, you will not need more treatment for 2 years or more.
